My daughter has a new mac convert.
He is completely amazed!

The only problems is he needs his powerpoint documents.
He doesn't mind buying MS Office, because having the Mac is worth it.
But, is there a cheaper way he can convert and save as a PowerPoint documents than buying MS office?

Keynote (though not all PP features are supported by Keynote, nor are all keynote features supported by PP) is nice...Good enough for the Supreme Leader Steve, who it was expressly created for... :-)

NeoOffice <http://www.neooffice.org/> is Open Office 1.1 ported to Mac OS X. Right now it's a kind of hybrid thing..it runs without needing X-windows, and menus are where they're supposed to be (on the menu bar, versus OO which uses menus in each document window), the rest of it looks less Mac-like, though still easy to understand. Your son will recognize it, it looks like they stol-uhhh-"borrowed" many icons from Windows office.

Its free, and in my experience the PP compatibility is pretty good.

This is an entire drop-in Office replacement, and has a spreadsheet, presentation, word processing components plus a drawing component with lots of neat features.

Don't worry about the 'beta' status, OSS developers tend to be far more conservative about releases than commercial ones; this would have been released in alpha by MS if it was their product...

I like this a lot!

Open Office itself is still under active development (a large scale rewrite, in fact), and full native Mac support has been delayed until the V2 release, allegedly sometime in 2005. Unfortunately, OS X development has been slow, and NeoOffice is the most functional version. They need more developers to help.
