o.k.--you may be on to something here. I copied the keychain from the library file (remember, it doesn't show up in "keychain access" so I can't tell it to delete the keychain) to my desktop. Then I made a new keychain, giving it the same name as the old one. Keychain told me I already had a keychain with this name, and did I want to replace it. However, I still can't import the copied file. I then deleted the new keychain I just made and repeated the steps. Same answer "You already have a keychain with this name, etc." If I already have one, why isn't it there???

Running 10.3.7 on G5 1.6 Gig

Last night my main keychain disappeared, i.e. didn't show up in my keychain access. I ran the keychain repair, then repaired permissions and ran disc repair. No relief. The weird part is that I can "see" the missing keychain in my library folder (both in my user library and hard drive library folder). I tried importing it back into keychains, but it is "greyed out". Same thing when I try to import it from a backup. Apple Care says "I dunno". Thought I'd check and see if anyone else has had or solved this problem in the past before I start trying to rebuild my keychain from scratch.

Have you tossed keychain prefs? (com.apple.keychainaccess.plist)

Try this, copy the keychain file, then, using Keychain Manager, delete your keychain. Now create a new one, and see if you can import the copied file. It may have been grayed out because Keychain Manager thought it was already there.
