Is there any way to fix a broken pin where you plug in the IDE cable on a Hard Drive

Swapping out the controller from another drive is the simplest. Get lucky and you can pick up a dead drive where it's known it's the drive, not the controller.

Alternatively, some scavenging of bits from a dead drive, and carefully soldering in a new pin.

Soldering the pin itself tends not to work.

Running a jumper wire from the broken pin into the right line in the cable works, too, though that effectively ties the cable permanently onto that drive.

If you're really lucky, and the broken pin is a ground pin (see the pinout here <http://www.bbdsoft.com/ide.html> ) you can jumper the cable line corresponding to that pin to another ground line in the cable. The cable can be used on a regular drive without problems.
