my question are:
is there a way i can share files between each computer using the router? (if so, how?)
Yes. Just turn on File Sharing.
can i share the (serail) printer on my g3 with the g4? (can i print docs from the g4 using the printer on the g3?)
Probably not. There is a program Appletalk laserwriter bridge, available deep in Apple's archives that will let ethernet-connected macs see local talk-connected printers from the ethernet side, but it works only with printers like Laserwriters, not most serial printers, like inkjets. I also don't know if it works under 9.2.
can i share my netscape mail folder on my g4 and access it from my netscape on my g3?
As a mail folder? With at least one 3rd party program and some serious Unix-fu on the OS X system, you can.
There are programs that will access a POP mail account, such as your Netscape mail, and feed them into a mail server. You would set up an IMAP mail server on the OS X mac, and point both your mail clinets (on the G3 and the G4...if you're using Netscape, it's simple, just create new accounts, just click the IMAP button and specify your Mac as the incoming mail server. For outgoing mail specify your ISP's SMTP server, which is probably already set up properly.)
Now your G4 will go out to Netscape, get your e-mail, and stick it in it's own server. An IMAP server retains all the mail on the server as the central message store, allowing multiple clients and systems to access the mail. This is what we use, I can access my mail (simultaneously, in fact) from a variety of mail clients, including Web mail clients.
At times, trying to solve some problems, I've had my inbox open from Mail, Mozilla, and Web mail open in Firefox and Safari.
IMAP is VASTLY superior to POP, but since all the mail stays on the servers, it requires the ISP's to maintain large storage and backup systems. Most modern clients even let you download all the mail so you can work offline as though it were a POP mail system
