list etiquette?

I understand the fun of ragging on other people's cars, computers, etc. 
but some of this stuff should just go between individuals, not to the 
whole list. For a list whose purpose is to help folks squeeze the most 
out of older equipment, it could be more helpful, less contentious. The 
signal to noise ratio is way too high right now, and has been for a few 
days.

Please think before you post: if what you're sending isn't germane to 
the list or the topic, just reply directly.
