In my case, the only danger is provoking a silly/childish response.
But let's take a look at a recent post and see where the author may have
gone wrong:

<tone of desperation>

Can't I just, say, read my mail and maybe play an MP3 in the background?

</desperation>

Or should I email you first to make sure that I'm meeting "proper" computing
guidelines?  Just asking.

[Sorry about that; I just *hate* being told what I Ought To Be Doing. I
will stop now.]

Um, yes, you do (and I fall into that group, too, when I am not mindful)

The one thing that has always Fascinated the Hell out of me regarding the
Internet is that people feel free to say things online that they would
*never* say to someone in person (Slashdot is a shining example). For
instance, if I'm using a knife as, say, a pry bar, that is a very poor time
to choose to start lecturing me on the "proper" use of that knife.
Likewise, I think most people are going to get offended if you tell them
what they "ought" to be doing on the box of their choice. It's their box
and they're doing what they like (or need) to do; that is enough.

Please, before you start typing, carefully consider the fact that there is a
human being, somewhere, who will be reading and reacting to what you have
written. In the case of this list, there may be many people.

I think the essence of the point that you were trying to make (that a
new[er] Mac can do things an older Mac can't) is a valid one. However, I
find that a lot of times the point being made may not be as important as the
_way_ the point is being made. And there are definitely ways to make a
point that will not cause a mountain of excrement to be flung at you by the
people you've just succeeded in setting off.

This is always something worth thinking about.

That being said, I find that Chevy thread to be _hilarious_! Perhaps the
bottom line in all of this is as Mr. Burkman says:

>Get sense of humor.

>Post back.

Best,
