Answer appears to be "no", due to a limitation in the OS (Mac OS X or Windows) and not in the FW spec itself.

Well, at least they didn't say that one, or both, computers go up in a puff of smoke if you try it.....
If multiple computers and a Hard Drive or CDROM are connected together by firewire, the first computer that boots up gets control of the device.
Sounds like the first computer to boot up just takes control but no damage done?
Actually, I have two G4's and each one has an external Firewire hard drive connected. Then I was going to connect both computers to a third Firewire hard drive and thereby be able to work with the whole shenanigans from each computer. Just a thought.
