I changed to a suspected good pram battery and now I get an almost start.
I get the bong, the light goes orange then green for 1-2 seconds and then
nothing. Total shutdown.

Is this normal for the early iMacs with a dead pram battery or is it fina=DOA? I'll have to go hunting for a battery tomorrow as the local Radiot
Shacks are more interested in selling cell phones than electronics. I wan=to know if its going to be worth the effort. Or should I just hold off fo=rthe mini-Macs. =20 =20 John
Sounds like a dead analogue board. Sadly common on early iMacs.
I would try a KNOWN good PRAM battery.
