I was talking to someone recently about all my Macs (iMac FP 1GHz,
AlBook 1GHz and MDD 2x1GHz) seemingly getting slower and slower.

He said that it's probably a temp folder of sorts filling upp and I should
empty this. I have to admit that I was much better at staying on top
of maintenance with OS 9 and backwards (as one had to), but since
the extensions and CDEVs no longer exist one gets a little lazy...

Are there any maintenance steps like this to keep the system running
as fast as it should (without having to reinstall) ???

I use the shareware product Macaroni to run the periodic maintenance. It is a system preference pane and once it was set I have not had to deal with it again. It waits until the system is idle then runs any of the maintenance routines that are due. It does cost $9 but I think it was worth it to have the computer do the maintenance automatically.
