You can run most apps in Classic.  Usually the things that don't run 
in Classic are those that are getting deep in to the System to modify 
things.  I have yet to switch to OS 9 just to run a program, only for 
some more esoteric things.  On my Wallstreet I would have to boot OS 
9 from time to time to deal with a well known bug in the sleep 
function.  And I've done it on some machines to change the File 
Sharing name on a bunch of machines that got cloned from a single 
master.  Occassionally the old name would appear in Classic and cause 
confusion as it was the same for all the machines.
