What I have found is, at least on the sites I have found the files I am looking for, they saved the .ram as the link to the .rm file, which was also downloadable if you opened up the .ram file.

So I have the "real" files saved so I can play them locally without the net. You can often download the link file, and open it, sometimes it helps to not be on line so it will bomb trying to load, and then give up the link. Then go to the folder the file is in if it isn't locked and download anything you want from them without trying to stream it over the net.

I am using OSX.3.7.

Thanks for the help! The WireTap program may be my best bet. It takes a lot of CD's to record all the files to audio CD. And the heck if I am paying any $$ to real for the higher end player that can burn them as MP3's. Real doesn't deserve to survive with how bad their music player is. The format may have some advantages, but the lack of iTunes quality in the player FAR outweighs ANYTHING.

I have pondered even what it takes to find the encoder from Real for some stuff of my own, the website is so cluttered and junked up with crap, you can't even find it! Even for someone who is looking to do professional stuff for the web, it was useless to find it. Waste of net bandwidth if you ask me.... I use Quicktime with the Qualcomm PureVoice format. Was able to get 45 minutes of mono speaking down to less than 4 MB, and streamed with Quicktime. Works for me.......... Audio quality isn't the best, but size is, and enough to stream on a 14.4 connection! I am using MP4 now, much better quality, but a little larger file size, still acceptable to stream.

.rm isn't a sound file, just a pointer to the location on the
Internet. I think with Real Player Pro you can download sounds but I
don't know about saving it as something besides Real format.

.rm files are, or at least may be, sound files (RM = Real Media); I've got
a bunch on my PC that came with the player. More commonly they're .ra,
(Real Audio).

.ram files are the ones with the pointers, eg one could consist of the text
