FWIW, I am running a Adaptec PC version 2940U2W SCSI card flashed for Mac and running it under OSX.3.7 with absolutely no issues. Low cost high speed (UltraWide, 20 to 40 MB/Sec real world) card that has 68 pin and 50 pin (large) inside and 68 pin outside.

The 2940 series "isn't supported under OSX", but that DOESN'T mean it won't work. I don't boot off of it, I haven't tried to, don't have an OS on those 3 drives (1 internal and 2 external). But it works fine with no problems.
