The very same exact thing happened to me when I
upgraded to 10.2.8: The monitor would just cut out
randomly as if the computer put it into sleep mode.

I determined that it was caused by Limewire (Limewire
is running a lot even when we are not aware it is) -
after I removed Limewire it never happened again.

Subject: Very weird long term, no-video crash on G3 :(

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I am working in my G3 and all of a sudden I lose
video. This has been
happening for months. Sometimes I can press the power
button + return to
shut it down. Sometimes the mac wont respond. And
sometimes it
ignores the three finger salute.

I first noticed this when I upgraded my G3 to OS
10.2.8
Before I did that specific upgrade, it would never do
that.

I downgraded to 10.2.6 and it stopped.

What's funny about this is that I used to have the
Apple 15" Trinitron
monitor for it then. Now I got a 17" NEC PC monitor,
same problem, so
Iknow its not the monitor.

I was obligated to upgrade to 10.2.8 eventually again,
because anything
older makes Limewire unexpectedly quit. Now Limewire
doesn't quit but
I get these crashes.

I've gotten to the conclusion that Limewire is not
causing this because
it has happened at least twice when the mac is
starting up and/or when
Limewire wasn't running. I doubt that its the display
card because 89%
of the time, the mac crashes

This is weird, after all this time, its starting to
bug me, could it be
that the power supply can't handle my setup?

BTW I do believe the battery is dead, Iam running
synch time in OS X,
time is screwed up in OS 9.2, oh this does not happen
AT ALL when I
restart in OS 9.2

MY SYSTEM SPECS: G3 333 Beige, 42gig full high SCSI 68
pin ID:2 (with
four volumes, two with 9.2, one with 8.1), 9gig 1"
SCSI 68 pin ID:0
(running OSX), Dead PRAM Battery, OS 10.2.8, One
adaptec PCI SCSI card
(where both harddrives sit), one USB card, one PC
monitor card, 256MB ram,
one IDE 100 Zip drive, one CD Burner (I recently
acquired to replace
bad one), NO FLOPPY DRIVE (I removed to install full
height HD) full
height drive has been here for about 10 months, longer
than the crash
ocurrence, System Profiler reports a PCI "video" card
in F1, with 6MB
memory, is that the one it came with? I see only 3
PCI slots, all full

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!
Lili
