It has nothing to do with SCSI.

FireWire is a cross-platform implementation of the high-speed serial data
bus Architecture. Same as USB 1.1 and 2.0.

I agree with you. I use FW 400, but USB 2 is not as bad as everyone leads
on. Some even say that Apple writes shoddy USB 2 drivers on purpose to make
Firewire look more appealing. I have tested USB 2 on my G5 dual 2.5 and my
AMD XP3200+ machine and USB 2 is appreciably faster on the PC than it is on
my G5. Go figure. Firewire delivers 1.5 amps of power where USB 2 only
delivers 1.0. USB 2 can handle 127 devices where FW can only handle 63.
Firewire is better for sustained read/writes IMHO. Firewire uses a
Peer-to-Peer architecture where USB 2 uses Host/Slave. That makes USB 2
easier to use, but slightly slower than rated. Firewire is more expensive,
and USB 2 is a standard on the PC side of the digital river.

There are a lot of Pro's and Con's involved in this arena.
