Just to provide a counter point.... Firefox is often touted for being
more secure than Internet Explorer for Windows, and that is certainly
true given what we know of the flaws existing in it now. But has the
Firefox development team demonstrated the ability to patch security
flaws in a timely fashion? The answer is, so far, NO. Take a look at
Firefox's report on Secunia.com (they track security flaws in a large
number of software) and you'll find that not even one known security
flaw has been addressed fully, and only one has been only partly
resolved. Included in the list of unpatched security flaws is the very
first one which was listed in August of 2004. Not even a partial fix
yet. In the mean time Apple has time and again patched all security
flaws found in Safari in rapid fashion. Indeed as of today, there are
no known security flaws remaining in Safari. What flaws reside in
Firefox that haven't been found yet, and when they are found, how long
will it take the Firefox developers to address them? So far it takes 4
months and counting. Mind you, this can't compare to Microsoft's record
with Internet Explorer which includes a "highly critical" flaw from
August of *2003* that remains unpatched, and milder flaws even from
2002 that are unpatched, but it sure isn't anything to be proud of and
makes me question the claims that open source is inherently more
secure. Firefox doesn't show that to be true.
