Those Maxtors are indeed very cheap now, I've had good and bad results 
with this brand, my Diamond Max 9 models are still chucking along in my 
server in a RAID config.
BTW I thought that the warranty was 1 year nowadays?

The general warranties are as follows except for Seagate.  Seagate now
has a 5 year warranty on all their drives.

Cheap drives            1 year
8mb cache and SATA      3 years
SCSI                            5 Years
