I've been using the RCA video-in port on my Wings AV card to capture

higher quality video than through the RCA video-in port on the card.

To do this, I'll have to buy a VCR with a S-VHS video-out port. However,
I've also heard that the video coming out of the VCR's S-VHS video-out
port is only of higher quality if the videotape that's playing was
originally recorded in S-VHS mode. Unfortunately, all my videotapes are
standard tapes (i.e., none recorded in S-VHS mode).

So, the question to the list is: will I be capturing a higher quality
video using the S-VHS video-in port on my Wings AV card if I'm playing
standard (i.e., non-S-VHS) videotapes in my VCR?

The information you received is accurate. You will not get any better quality from your tapes since they were not recorded in S-VHS mode. Save your money.
