Am I misunderstanding something here? Native CD-burning has been present from 9.1, working the same way as in OSX.

But I always found it clumsy the way it first copies your files to some hidden cache on your HD until you burn it, though it's not really a problem anymore with todays HD-sizes.

I suspect that is Apple's way to avoid problems. By copying to a hidden cache first it avoids problems with mastering from a network drive or moving / deleting files after they've been selected but before they are copied to the optical disk. Toast makes the assumption the user knows what not to do and Apple doesn't, which is probably a good idea.

Agree, Toast is better. Gives total control of what kind of CD to burn. But costs money if you are honest... 8-)

I do believe Toast Titanium is the best out there. Its doing a great job
here, I mostly use it in OS 9.2 because I like the OS X burning system, iTunes
does a pretty good job too with the music, I wouldn't use anything else for
music.

I've used Toast in the past but so far with my SuperDrive equipped iBook I haven't felt the need for it.
