My original question wasn't all about the legalities of the issue, but also whether any list members had done the same, and what their experiences were in doing so. I got basically what I expected, and have comfort in knowing that so far no list member has gone to court over what we're thinking of doing.
I spent 13 years as a mobile DJ and never thought twice about paying for the right to spin what I chose. I was never approached by any copyright lawyers during those years, and I seriously doubt anyone would pay me much mind now.
I do appreciate the responses, including the "conversational" ones, as they were entertaining to read :)
So again, if anyone has done or is doing something similar to what we're planning, I'd love your feedback, good or bad, as we're looking for ideas, experiences, etc.
