hey out there,

we've got a vigor 2600 router/firewall for our adsl line.

the mac we use as a server has been happily sitting on it with ports 21
(ftp) and 80 (web) open and this has been handled through the port
redirection table in the nat setup.

however, apart from a 'Block NetBios' filter, the firewall is at it's
default settings - i.e. no ports blocked (and i think this is for windows?).

so, my question out there is; those of you who have firewalls, what ports
you got blocked?!

You should block everything that isn't used.

Turn everything off.

Use port 22 for SSH (and stop using FTP, use sftp instead, or tunnel ftp over ssh), turn on port 80, and see what breaks.

Netbios is indeed for Windows.
