How come you un-mount the external drive before shutting down? I've got three external FireWire drives connected to this Digital Audio G-4. and I never dismount them to shut down. Is there something I don't know here?

there's no power switch on this external firewire box, so if i shut the computer down the drive stays on.
i was told to dismount the drive, shut the computer down, then unplug the external power supply to shut it down.
