has anyone ever used there camcorder to as digital bridge from a VCR and then used iMove to import the video?
That is what I was doing but it would only take 6 min clips to the timeline I need the whole tape

Lots of people do that, and I bring entire movies into iMovie myself all the time, then edit out the raunch (to make it G-rated, so my kids can see it) and send it back out to tape in the VCR. I did it most recently with Titanic, which is an exciting movie for kids if you take out the cussing and sex.

I use this Miglia analog-to-digital converter http://www.miglia.com/products/video/director2/ between the VCR and the Mac, which does the same thing as your camcorder, and in fact iMovie thinks it is a camcorder.

iMovie 4 and earlier only accepts video in short chunks (around 9 min. I think), so you just string all the short clips together in the timeline (and they play seamlessly, as though they were all one long clip), but the new iMovie 5 which just came out is said to take in segments of an hour or so. I don't know because I haven't upgraded yet.

You can get the facts on the new iMovie 5 in this Apple forum http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx? [EMAIL PROTECTED]@.68a47798 or on iMovie 4 and earlier here: http://discussions.info.apple.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]@.ee6bcd9. These are great discussion forums filled with knowledgeable people where you can get an answer to a question fast.

I've recently moved up from iMovie to Final Cut Express, due to the numerous bugs and limitations of iMovie. For example, when sending long movies out to tape (or burning them to DVD) iMovie is famous for getting the video out-of-synch with the audio. There are some workarounds for that and other problems that you can find in the above forums, but Final Cut is so superior (after you get it figured out) that it's hard to go back to iMovie. Of course, Final Cut Express is $300.
