As some of you know, I've been playing around with audio streaming
lately and now that I have most of the bugs worked out, I would like to
try a test to see what kind of bandwidth I can expect if I continue to
run the server and the max of 8 users are all logged in at one time.
In addition to that, I need to know if it's worth it to pay the $40 for
the Mac server/mixer program as I plan to run this from my beige if all
goes well. As of now I'm using Shoutcast/Winamp on my P4 as it is
freeware and that beats paying $$$ for something I don't know if I can
use or not! What I propose is for 8 volunteers to log on from 8:00 to
8:15 PM EST this evening while I attempt to do my normal web surfing,
email, etc. So anyone who is interested in helping a fellow G-lister
out I sure would appreciate it. Please drop me an email off-list and I
will provide the url for you to log onto my audio server. BTW, for
those who don't know what's involved in this process, you can use
iTunes, Audion, Whamb, etc. to open the stream. You should hear music
following a short delay for the buffer to fill. FYI, the stream is
running at 48kbps stereo @ 22 khz so even the people on dial-up should
be able to listen. Thanks!
Just a message from Doug...
