It SHOULD be possible to make 'backup' copies of things on the boot disk, without all this 'hoop jumping'.
fire up terminal, do 'man ditto'
Carbon Copy Cloner is an applescript+GUI wrapper around the ditto command.
I say 'hoop jumping' because I booted from a DIFFERENT HD, logged in as 'root', and still got the 'permissions' error.
What file is triggering the error?

Thanks for the pointer to 'ditto' --- that's one I don't remember ever running into before (on other systems) --- now all I've got to do is get down pat how to get to and use 'terminal'.
(Ive got to watch myself that I don't screw things up by entering them the wrong way ---- I.E going into a program/system the 'Expected' way Vs. the (sometimes) easier way of "click the program icon in the disk directory'. Learned that on a Unisys PC many years ago.)
As to what file 'triggered' the error ???
Is there a 'log' file, or can one be turned on? when doing things like that?
