On a G4 running OS 10.3.8 , is there an inclusion somewhere in the system that was intentionally set to notice when a different physical location is being used.

If in fact that is true, what information is being gathered and to what extent is it being used ? Etherrnet address ? Router address ? Desktop Picture ?

I just find this interesting that the computer auto sets the desktop to what it was when it last shut down at that location.

I also see the same thing with my PowerBook. I have different locations defined (i.e. in the Apple menu). I noticed my desktop picture was changing between "old" and "new" settings, but I didn't realize it was tracking the location. Just sleep/wakeup is enough to reset the location, apparently, as I have it set to "Automatic" as the location. Manually changing the location has no immediate effect on the desktop picture.
