Thanks Doug. I did have to re-install the whole 10.3 system, the driver
is not a separate part in the disk. And then, of course I did have to
run the software update from Apple. One odd thing, now the putter wont
wake up from sleep. Its a QS 800, 1 gig ram, running 10.3.8 and before
the reinstall it was waking up (the other hd with same install is not
waking up) but the external firewire does wake up.
I am baffled.
Any ideas?

Both OS 9 and OSX have a DVD player included, but I'm not sure it's
installed by default unless your system had a DVD drive when the OS was
installed. Might check for it on your install discs.
