Yeah, I moved straight from 8.6 (best ever Classic MacOS IMHO, and 9.x offered few compelling advantages that outweighed it's compatibility issues) and it sure was a shock. I couldn't believe the stability! It was a revelation showing how stable a workhorse OS really could be for me. > How is it that we live in a "Windows World" marketplace? I'm going to venture a guess and say part of the problem is simply bad advice. Sh*t, even my Mum ended up with a friggin useless, underpowered WinXP Home limited capability PC without enough RAM. Oh - and a Lexmark all-in-one printer/scanner/copier (Gah! It's already had to be replaced once and is less than 6 months old) after some PC user's "advice". You can bet that stuck in my throat for a few days :-\ > Well, I guess that answer is well-documented. Apple is surprising a lot of > sceptics now though and seems healthier by the quarter. I couldn't stand using a stripped down, bare bones classic just so it wouldn't crash ever hour. I keep an old souped up 7300 next to my newer Mac with 8.6 and connected via ethernet. That way I've the best of worlds and don't have to give up FinderPop, Window Monkey, and all the other interface enhancements I use in 8.6. Not as seamless as the classic environment on the same Mac, but a hell of a lot faster. YMMV of course if you've a fast Duel G4 or better.
