The cable modem works just fine if hooked to the 10baseT side of my Farallon Starlet 10/100 hub (not the 100 side), but the hub then has to be in the Mac's port, so the printer is left out. Here's your problem.
You need a router, not a hub.
Get a cable router with 4 ports, plug the cable modem into the WAN side (you'll probably have to reset the cable modem, so it recognizes the MAC address of the router) and your Mac and the printer into the LAN side.
Voila...a working printer. ;-)
