A shorted out USB hub fried the logic board via the USB ports.

Can they be fixed ?

If the above happened, yes...with a new Mobo.

Any checks to be made ?

From your description of the problem, I'm wagering that a decent funeral and wake, followed by resurrection as MacQuaria is in order.

That's a very cruel suggestion!!! :(

They're Bondi iMacs, aka first gen 233 Mhz ones. Replacing the Mobo is probably more than they're worth, pretty much. Part out the guts and put the rest on the shelf with a goldfish or two swimming in it.

At least they can have another career; an iMac MacQuarium is very pretty. They also make good terrariums or small reptile/amphibian enclosures. A classic MacQuarium is kind of small for that purpose.

Look at it this way, there's no other kind of computer even aspiring to be more than landfill...oh sure, there's the occasional PDP-11 wet bar, and refrigerators hidden in Sun disk arrays, but the vast majority of dull beige, gray and black boxes go off to their doom without a second thought, having trudged along for a few years crunching numbers, creating memos and dispaying endless spam-filled webpages, then it's off to the dumpster for you....
