OK, I'm willing to pretend to have an open mind.... The trouble with upgrading to X, if I understand things
right which maybe I don't, is that it's also necessary to get all new
software, and that can run into real money.
BTW, sorry to beat a dead horse even one more time (though having joined this list just yesterday I didn't realize the poor old nag had been keelhauled quite so thoroughly): a download of iCab fixed my PayPal problem very effectively. Best, Victoria
If you still need to run some OS 9 apps you can run OS 9.2 (upgrade from 9.1) right from Classic mode in OS X. Appleworks, Mail, etc. come with the install but yes, there will be expense in buying other new OS X apps. Browser downloads and some apps like Eudora, in sponsored mode, etc. are still FR EE.
Anyways, here you can g et OS X Jaguar for as lit tle as $28 and Panther for $49.

And don't let any list member tell you when to stop posting about a subject! (list Nannys excluded) If people are still deriving some benefit from a subject then others have a delete button. Nobody makes them click an email with a clearly marked subject and forces them to read it! (Though it WAS getting a bit long-in-the-tooth and probably OT as well). Tim just woke up crabby and he even admitted it! Now he is gleefully bestowing the virtues of OS X to the list and I must agree with him.
Try this test. Install both OS 9 and OS X 10.2 or later on a supported computer. (May not get the same results on an unsupported machine using XPostfacto although there are many happy users with that as well). Get familiar with OS X.
I think you will find yourself just naturally gravitating to using OS X whenever possible until poor old OS 9 finds itself just sitting there idle, just hoping that you accidentally click something, such as an old simpletext doc, that starts up the classic environment.
I still use Quicken 2000 and that is the only time my OS 9.2 sees the light of day on my monitor screen.
(Sorry for the weird spaces... trying to get around the darn 579 content kicking out my post).
