Sorry, I've lost track of the original question about PDF apps, but before jumping to conclusions about Preview I'd advise people to use it a while first to make sure they're not missing out on something. Preview is a GREAT reader for PDF's, especially long docs like manuals. The search feature is better and faster than even a pre-indexed document in Acrobat (any version).
I set all pdf documents to open automatically in Preview; if I need to use Acrobat or Acrobat Reader for some reason it is very easy to do so-- control-click for contextual menus gives you the option to choose which app to open the doc with.

What does Acrobat Reader do that Preview doesn't? It's been so long since I used Acrobat Reader for anything (at least 3 years) that I have no idea what I might be missing.
Well, maybe I am guilty of not taking my own advice and taking the time to give Preview a chance. I've just given it some lengthy experimentation time and I guess for just basic PDF reading Preview makes for simple, clear and neat page displays. I found that shrinking the thumbnail size down so the page view scroll panel takes up less desktop real estate and leaves more for the page being viewed helps considerably.
My biggest issue, and the same for using it to view pictures or jpegs, is the lack of any text or image area capture and pasting ability, aside from entire pages and pics. (Unless I am really missing something). Sure there's other apps that can do that. But If I already have something open in Preview and I get the notion to copy the text or a portion of a picture into something else, having to reopen it in another app and relocate the text or pic seems inefficient, if not annoying. Hence the appropriate name, "Preview," right? It's just for looking.
