Hello,

I am back to using Macs after a long time without them.....which makes me
ill prepared to fully debug the problem I am about to describe.

I am having a serious issue with my beige G3 that I purchased recently. I am
hoping some of you folks who are more experienced with Macs can help me:

1. The beige G3 comes with a 266 MHz processor and 128 MB of RAM and a small
hard drive. It came with Mac OS 9.2.2 installed.

2. It looks like the motherboard revision is the one that allows slave hard
drives. No PCI cards have been installed.

3. The machine was running flawlessly but me being me, decided to install a
bigger hard drive and more RAM. I installed the hard drive correctly as a
slave and tried to boot up...

4. The G3 freezes while it was booting up MacOS. A rectangular dialog box
appears but it does not have any text.

5. I tried to boot up without extensions but this did not solve the issue.

6. I disconnected the new hard drive and left everything the way it was
before. I try to boot-up again but the same problem keeps occurring!

7. Tried to boot-up with MacOs 9.2 CD that I got recently but the same issue
occurs.

8. Before my failed attempt to install the new hard drive, the machine would
"chime" when it was turned on, now, I don't get any sound.

I cannot even boot up the machine anymore and I have no way of debugging
this. I don't care if I loose all the data in the hard drive, I just want
the machine to boot up.

Any help will be appreciated, even if it means that I have to throw away the
machine to get another one.

Thanks!

M. Romero
