As soon as I saw it today I opened it and tried it out. Whoopee, it had a scrollable selection on the left, and on opening one of those there appeared a menu on the right, with a bunch of choices such as rename printer... this had the printer's name on it. So I changed the name, and now can't remember if I did anything else immediately afterward, but the machine chose that moment to crash.
On restarting the HP LaserJet Utility had changed... now there were only 2 options in the left (no longer scrollable) column of the window, and the top one, Printer Info, is blank (and the More Info button is disabled); the other choice is Preferences. And the Utility cannot now find the printer, though it did at first.
Why is it that every option I get comes down around my ears?
Anyone KNOW what might be wrong here? May I have changed some security setting which may have locked me out of my own printer? (if it has any passwords relict from the previous owner, I do not know them, nor do I have any way to find them out).
