Hi all,

I picked up a supposedly working DA G4 466 today at a university surplus auction. Of course, testing wasn't possible at the auction, and all items were "as is". I brought it home, plugged it in, hooked it up, and booted... only it didn't boot.

Instead, I get a single tone (and one slow LED throb followed by one flash). I believe this means that POST isn't finding any RAM. The G4 definitely has RAM - it's got two sticks of 128MB PC133 that test fine in my B&W G3. I even tried each stick individually and in each slot. No dice, of course.

So, I'm thinking I got a bum motherboard (or at least a bum memory controller, but replacing that is beyond my skill level). Do you folks concur? Is there anything else I can do to test the motherboard?

I don't have any other "known good" PC133 sticks (all I've got are PC100 for my beige G3 and B&W), but that would obviously be my next test. At the moment, though, I'm not too interested in buying another stick of RAM...

Assuming the mobo is toast, what should I expect in the way of cost for a replacement? I got the DA G4 for $250, and considering the cost of some newer hardware, I'm not really interested in paying a ton to get it working. $250 was pushing it for me...

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Drew
