This was a non-issue for me as I was already filtering this list as I do all email lists in which I participate based on their "To:" headers into their own folders. Now I can't see as much of the subject as I used to. And it gets worse as a thread matures.Maybe for you it is a "non-issue", but for many of us it is very helpful. Please don't presume to speak for everyone here.
Please remove this non-feature. It adds no functionality.

I was not speaking for everyone here nor was I presuming to do so. I was speaking for myself and will continue to do so.
But it is a fact that it adds no new functionality. I am speaking from the standpoint of filtering messages. If proponents of this change are doing so because they do not filter their messages, then those of us who do filter them suffer because subject lines are now longer and a reader loses subject line text that otherwise would be readable. And we gain *nothing* in return. If, on the other hand, people who want this change also currently filter their messages, then I am confused as to what functionality is gained.
And a little history. Other lists in which I have participated have had this discussion. Eventually "Subject:" munging was removed in favor of assuming that those who cared would filter. The limited length of subject line text was deemed precious and in need of conservation.
In the end, I also understand that I don't control the behavior of other people. I don't control whether people filter their messages or not. And I don't control whether the list administrators change the subject line. If the list administrators wish to do so, then they will. It's not under my control.
But I think this is a *major* change. And it was not a concensus decision by the list.

Well, since I belong to multiple mail lists over five different accounts, I have more than enough inboxes already, thankyouverymuch! And I'm sure I'm not the only one here in that position. Why should I be forced to set up yet another inbox as well as a filter, just for the convenience of a couple of other people? Is it really too much to ask that an email list message identify itself in the header? Every other list I subscribe to (other than the G-Books list) does so, and nowhere else has there ever been any complaints about it being a problem......
