Yes, WriteNow does work in classic. The problem I am having, and many people have reported since 9 came out, is with the display. There is a very pronounced moire pattern over the whole window and text can shift display position (shift a pixel or 2 left or right) while I am typing a line. There is no problem with printing and all the features work correctly, it is just display issues.
Besides being a nice word processor and doing almost everything I want (a real time spell check is nice), there is something about using an app that has a suggested memory usage of about 600KB and takes up just over a meg of disk space to write a one page letter instead of one like Word that takes up, according to Activity Monitor, 26.54MB of real memory and 185.55MB of Virtual Memory and 12.6MB of disk space.
