I have an old G3 All-in-one 233 mhz. I was running
OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.1.5 perfectly for several years
when the already replaced Maxtor HD crashed. I have
installed a Seagate 120 GB Ultra ATA/100, installation went fine and was able to partition drive
to install OS 9 and OS 10, however when OS 9.1 tries
to boot I get a system crash and an "illegal
instruction" code. I tried to boot up into OS 10.0.0
and a kernel panic states it "can't open". Any advise
on what I might try to help resolve this problem. Thanks

What size partitions did you make? OS X, (and maybe OS 9 too, I've heard different stories), need to have their boot files in the first 8 GBs.
