Thanks, Doug,

Now I've more questions. I have been unable to get my Molar (OS 9.1)
and my B&W (OS X 10.1) to talk to each other. Apparently I'm actually
going to have to buy a book. I've never had to do that with an Apple
OS before. But networking in OS X is very different from the classic
OS.

This is getting ridiculous.

I also tried doing something more interesting than file sharing:
IPNetrouter, since my Molar has a modem and my B&W doesn't. But it
didn't work. Or hasn't yet. Since I haven't gotten File Sharing to
work, I won't blame IPNetrouter...

But I did use my network printer. It ran fine from my B&W. So the
Ethernet LAN is working OK.

1. Any recommendations on a book for OS X?

2. With a B&W running at 400MHz, does it make sense to go to Panther?

3. Is networking any easier above X 10.1?

Here's the deal. In OS X 10.1, I go to the Go pull-down, select Connect
to Server, and there I've entered the IP address of my Molar. After
100 and some odd seconds, it times out: "No file services are available
at the URL afp://67.xx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Try again later or try a different
URL (server return error - 1)."

When I switch to the Molar, select Chooser, and AppleShare, my B&W
appears. But when I try to log on as a registered user (using an
account I set up on OS X), I get this: "The connection to the server
has unexpectedly broken."

So, what's up?
