Have you tried the cuda button?

You didn�t say what g4 you have but if it�s a tower, there is a cuda button
near the PCI slots on the outside of the board. It�s a little silver dot
button, push it in for 3 to 5 seconds with the eraser end of a pencil.

Then boot up your computer and zap your pram. Hold down Command, Option, P,
and R keys at startup. Keep holding the keys down, let it chime at least 5
times. 

I�d try this first. I�ve had lots of power outages and never lost a power
supply.
