Command-power invokes the debugger, if present. Macsbug is a free d/l from apple if you get it. I used to use the debugger as a way of getting out of system crashes and bugs, it's worked great for me back when I used OS 9 (email me off list for info)
Either way, with OR WITHOUT a debugger present, simply type 'G' (without the single quotation marks) and it should go away.

I believe what you're getting is the debugger (with older Macs, you'd get there via the 'programmer's switch'). You need to be running a debugger command interpreter to do anything at the prompt. The only one I'm aware of is MacsBug, which runs as a system extension. It should still be available as a free d/l from Apple.

If you press the command and power button at the same time, you are brought
to a text only window in Mac OS 9. I have typed many things in this window,
but when I hit return it only erases what I have wrote. Is there any way in
which I can use this prompt?
