First, are you sure its a 450MHz card? Second, Id use some compressed air and clean both the chip and the ZIF slot. Third, Id try it at 400MHz anyway. I dont know what else to tell you except make sure that your jumper settings are correct. You could also try the processor in a different computer, even if its a beige. If youre located near Enfield CT Id meet up with you, since I have both a beige and a blue and white.

Yep, unless I'm reading the markings incorrectly, it's a 450.

I have tried booting it at different speeds, no joy.

The only things I can think of that *might* make a difference are:

The original had 512K, this has 1 Meg of cache
The chip itself is IBM marked, not Moto like the original.

These things shouldn't make a difference, but with all things computer, often there is no spoon.

I can list all the print on the chip and card if it might help. I'm at a loss as well as frustrated with this.

I tried installing a 400mHz *G#* ZIF in my 300 B&W. Set the jumpers correctly. No boot. Just wouldn't work. Sold the ZIF, no complaint that it wasn't good.
