So I'm quite proud of myself! Also looked up supported scanners on Apple for OS X and then found an Epson Perfection 610 on ebay, won it for $9.99!!! Just got tired of Renata's (B&W) recalcitrance at doing scsi (have a 2930 card) she just HATES it so I gave up.
Am absolutely LOVING OS X and it is thanks to all of you patient and wise G-Listers!

Congrats Deb! As soon as I can figure out why I lost one of the IDE channels on my transplanted beige DT motherboard I plan to put the 400 Mhz zif from my B&W in there. I thought about trying for 466, but will probably settle for a surely more stable 433. Did you up the bus speed as well or just the clock speed?

I just went with the "safe" one - Bus clock 66 MHz, PCI clock 33 mhz, CPU clock 333 mhz, PLL config x5 and it is really snappy (OS 9).
Hope you find out what the problem is with your IDE channel. That sounds like a pesky problem all right.
