Actually it's more complicated than that. As was noted, while OS <= 9 will work with USB 2 "HiSpeed" devices, it will only do so at USB 1.1 (non-"HiSpeed") speeds. Moreover, and this is a common misconception, a device being USB 2 does *not* imply "HiSpeed". USB 2 devices can be HiSpeed and in practice they usually (currently always?) are, but they can also be low speed only. So seeing "USB 2" on a package isn't enough. It must say "USB 2 HiSpeed" for it to be the higher speed. Anyway, with OS <= 9 it doesn't matter - it's all USB 1.1 to it.
Another thing to be aware of is that if you are using a USB 2 hub, and you plug a USB 1.1 device into it such as a keyboard and/or mouse, *all* devices on that hub will operate at USB 1.1 speeds. I'm not sure if plugging a USB 2 low-speed device into a hub has the same effect. Anyone know? It would great if it didn't, though it's pretty moot at the moment since I don't know of any such devices.
