I recently upgraded the HD in a newer iMac. Answers:
(1) I would definitely think NO! The iMac 400 DV was a nightmare to open, compared to the tower-Macs I'm used to. I would have destroyed it trying, if I didn't have Apples Service Manual. So many screws, shields, carriers,...
(2) I hope so, cause that's what I also did last week! From the discussion on the list it seems there won't be a problem. The difference in power consumption is small, especially since anything you put in now is much newer and better than the old 20 gigger. The HD is not a big heater in your Mac; that's taken care of by the monitor and motherboard...
(3) No. You can't upgrade an iMac's video. In fact, there are no slots for cards or anything at all - except RAM

I have read somewhere that this may cause problems because the faster HD generates too much heat for this fan less Mac.
(3) Could I replace its video card with something better - a 7000 Radion for example?
What card would you recommend? I intend to use the machine mostly for digital photo - not video.
