Hello Dave,

Thank you for the reply. I have re-seated the ram, checked all of the connections, and still had a freeze. The computer has an apple pro mouse, and I switched it with another mouse to see if the mouse may be causing the problem. Next I will switch out the RAM and the video card.

Thanks again,
David

Hi David,

I was hoping somebody would have some other ideas before this one but guess not.

The first thing I'd do is shut down everything, discharge yourself, and make sure everything is plugged in properly. Reseat the ram and make sure no dust is in the slots. Make sure all your fans are working if you live in a hot climate. Make sure the drive cables are tight. Check your battery, it's amazing what havoc a low battery can cause. Of course one of your ram sticks could have gone bad. You might need to rule this out by pulling all except one stick, see how it runs with one for a while. If no problems, add another, and so on. It is possible you have some weak ram to run that 1.2 Ghz.

Also check the power cable to the back hard drive. I have found that this wants to get caught in the hinge of the side door. Long shot and would likely cause a short then the problems you described.

That's all I've got for now. Good luck.
Dave

Hello,
My wife's G4 is intermittently freezing up. The only way I can bring it back to life is to kill the power. Often it occurs when using a USB device, but not always. It recently froze up during a software update to 10.3.8 - it would not reboot, so I had to reinstall 10.3. During the software update, no other aps were running, and no peripherals were in use. After installing 10.3, I updated to 10.3.8, hoping that it might take care of the problem. No luck, as she just had another freeze up, this time while printing to a USB printer.

It is a G4 Gigabit, with 1.5 G Ram, and an OWC 1.2 Ghz processor, running 10.3.8. She is using an apple mouse running off of an apple keyboard running off an apple ADC connected apple LCD monitor. The printer is hooked up to a usb port at the back of the cpu. She has had this machine for about 14 months, and it has been fine until the past few weeks.

 Any ideas?

 Thanks,
 David
