Just want to know how hard it is. About how long it takes. Im very
experienced with this, I know I could do it, just wondering if its a pain.

Thanks

Chris

Well, yes, it's kind of a pain. More importantly it's a strain on your board pushing and pulling cards and popping out all the connectors off the top of the board if you need to do it repeatedly for say... troubleshooting RAM. I also broke the power button extension piece once on mine by not having the cover case lined up exactly right while sliding back on. Some good adhesive fixed that.

Just be very careful and determine what else may need done once you're in there and do it all at once. PRAM battery, etc. Also, if you do need to trouble shoot it is possible to replace the processor and one or more sticks of RAM without entirely reassembling the computer. This must be done with the utmost care. I recall one lister from the PCI list saying he flipped the entire mobo 270 degrees with all mobo connections intact to lay flat on top of the opened chassis frame to be able to add and subtract cards and DIMMS as needed and reconnect monitor, mouse power etc. and reboot in that state for testing. It was my opinion that there was not enough slack on my mobo connections do do this without causing lots of strain. I was able to loosen up the SCSI and other cables and disconnect the floppy or others that weren't needed to flip the mobo out and VERY carefully prop it securely . The board must be supported fully from bowing when removing and installing cards and DIMMS. You will need the speaker connected to hear a bong.

Of course the safest thing to do is buy and install good RAM, reassemble entirely, cross your fingers, reboot and test.

Mike
