<< This may seem like an odd question, but: is it possible to network a Dual 2.5 ghz G5 with a Mac SE? I tried using a SCSI to Ethernet adapter, and the versions of Appletalk were incompatible. Any other options?>>
First, I suggest you find an Ethernet card and install it in the PDS slot of the SE/30. They should be available on the Swap list for $10 or less. I think the IIsi Ethernet card which is also low profile will also work in the SE/30. This is a question of the various OS's recognizing each other when networked. I have a Mac IIci and an SE/30 networked with a B &W and a Sawtooth both running OS 10.3.8. The Mac IIci runs OS 7.5.5 and the SE/30 runs OS 8.1 (hacked to run on the unsupported SE/30 with a IIfx ROM). See: http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/os8_se30.html for the hack. The SE/30 serves mp3's to iTunes on the B & W as well as other Mac's on the network without so much as a hiccup; nice since the maximum power consumption of the SE/30 is 75 Watts. Connecting to these old Mac's from OS 10.3.8 is not a problem. OTOH, trying to connect the G3 or G4 with OS X from the ancient Mac's is something I have not been able to do but not a problem in this situation. --glen (digest mode) -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
