One of my macs is playing up. It's a G3 running 8.6 and won't
startup from CD. When I try to start it from the startup disc it hangs
during the process, when I startup with extensions off, it boots but
the mouse won't work.
Does anybody know of a way to change the startup volume using only
the keyboard? I can navigate to the startup volume control panel but
havn't been able to find a way to change the volume to either; the
other drive, or my Norton CD, which presently sits in the drive
waiting to rescue my machine!
Your help is eagerly anticipated :)
Have you tried holding down the C key during booting? This, in theory,
forces the Mac to boot from a bootable CD that is in the drive.
If that fails, you might also try resetting the pram memory. Hold down
the Option, Command, P and R keys when you power on the Mac and wait
until you hear the startup chime from 3-10 times (opinions on the list
vary, three is Apple's recommended minimum, but many people report that
it can take up to 10 for a Beige G3), then try and start up from a CD
as above.
