Snip I don't know how you copied the TechTools disk, but there is how to make a bootable copy and add extra stuff (such as disk formatting utilities):
- Use Disk Copy to save a full CD-size disk image of the TechTools disk. Make sure you make it read/Write. Mount it on the desktop - Add whatever files or installations you need to the mounted disk image - Open Toast, and select Mac Volume as the burn type - DON'T just drag your mounted volume to the Toast window, but use the Select button. This way you can specify that you want the disk bootable - Burn I have done this lots of times to create bootable emergency or install disks for Macs. You can change the System on the mounted disk image any way you want before burning. For example, the other day I needed to boot and install an older iMac from CD. All I had was 9.0, but this Mac needed at least 9.04 to boot. So I downloaded the 9.04 update from Apple and ran it on the System folder in the disk image of the OS9.0 disk. Worked like a charm (though why I didn't go all the way to 9.1 eludes me now...) I haven't found any way to do this from OSX. Toast for X doesn't seem interested in noting OS9 bootable disks. Snip I burn my CD's kinda old-fashioned. Bring what I need on the desktop via Zip or CD or network. Copy what I want into a folder on my desktop and then move that folder into the toast window and burn a CD. This way works for me. I'm sorry if I led you to think that I copied the entire Techtools disk this way. What I did was copy the 9.1 System folder from Techtools and then Apple utilities from the OS 9 disk. But I am in a new place now. I went ahead and formatted my two WD 120 gig HD's with my Panther OS. Installed Panther on one of the HD's. Now I want to install OS 9.1 on the other HD. I will try to do what you describe above. Let you know how it works. But if I could purchase an OS 9.1 disk that would be really cool too. Are there any out there?
