Question:
You have basically the same hardware as I do in my B&W. If you watch a
DVD, what the the CPU usage? I was playing with it last night and
noticed
that double size windows (command-2) hit 100% on CPU usage (G3 450).
The
7K is listed as having DVD decoding abilities, but doesn't seem to be
doing much of anything on my machine.
I never really thought about it that much. I watch DVD's daily on mine
(while I'm eating usually) and I watch them full-screen. Mail
downloads new messages at 2 minute intervals (gotta love broadband!),
plus I have Firefox up and running and tuned to my web portal. I never
do anything more than that while watching and have not experienced so
much as a hiccup in the video or sound. I just assumed that OSX was
responsible for decoding duties as watching DVD's in OS9 is not
possible without a hardware decoder board. I had this setup with the
original G3-400 Mhz also, but at that time I had the hardware decoder
equipped Rage 128 Pro installed. Played smoothly then as well IIRC.
Just a message from Doug...
